Tohfat ul Kiram

The Endowment Fund Trust (EFT) presents Aqsa Ijaz’s landmark English translation of Mir Ali Sher Qan‘i’s Tohfat ul Kiram, titled Gift of the Generous, bringing to life a seminal 18th-century Persianate chronicle of Sindh’s history, spirituality, and cultural imagination.

Qan’i’s masterpiece reveals how premodern historiography intertwined fact with moral storytelling, where rivers diverted from tyrants’ lands and saints resurrected the dead. Ijaz’s translation, enriched with scholarly annotations, not only deciphers Qan’i’s encyclopedic vision for contemporary audiences but also interrogates the very nature of history-writing, positioning Tohfat ul Kiram alongside Indo-Persian epics like the Shahnameh as a narrative that shaped collective memory. Supported by EFT, this volume underscores Qan’i’s legacy as a poet-historian whose work, born from Thatta’s Naqshbandi scholarly milieu, redefined Sindh’s Islamic identity through literary virtuosity—a testament to the trust’s mission of revitalizing marginalized intellectual heritage.
