The Satcharni Monument, an architectural marvel at Makli Necropolis, stands as a testament to the artistic vision of Khusrau Khan Charkas (1592-1608 AD) during the Tarkhan rule in Sindh. Built around 1600 A.D., this brick structure showcases a unique fusion of Indo Islamic architecture, with striking similarities to Humayun’s Tomb (1570 A.D.) and the Taj Mahal (1631 A.D.). Its square plan with chamfered corners creates an octagonal illusion, while the original five-domed design (now lost) once crowned the central chamber and four corner rooms.

Conservation Efforts (2025 Onwards)

Under the supervision of the Endowment Fund Trust (EFT), the restoration of Satcharni focuses on:

• Structural Reinforcement: Repairing weathered masonry and rebuilding collapsed sections.
• Dome Reconstruction: Recreating the lost central and corner domes based on historical evidence.
• Tilework Restoration: Preserving surviving glazed tiles and replicating missing patterns where possible.
• Staircase & Plinth Repair: Addressing the misnomer of “seven staircases” (it has eight) while ensuring safe access.
